Farewell to thee! but not farewell
To all my fondest thoughts of thee:
Within my heart they still shall dwell;
And they shall cheer and comfort me.
- Anne Bronte
It all started with a simple "HI"
It was during that time when she (let's just call her Chubb for now) always greets her friend Ja and his buddy Red was with him. Never did Chubb thought that those little instances caught Red''s attention. One afternoon at the canteen, Ja called Chubb and shouted "Chubb, crush ka raw ni Red!". Believing that it was just a joke, she replied "Weh?Pauso to!". (note: her mouth was so full when she said this. Imagine how Red reacted. Haha =D) Chubb thought that this was a big turn-off for him although deep inside she was really flattered.
Did they know that this was just the beginning of their story?
Kismet does happen
October 26, High school dance. Chubb went backstage to wish her friend good luck but she did not notice that Red was also in there. (note: Red and Chubb’s friend are cousins) Ting! A light bulb suddenly popped out of Red’s head. He asked his cousin for Chubb’s number so he could do the “moves” and know her a little more. =D Two days after the start of their sembreak, Red took the courage to text her. Usually, Chubb would not text someone she does not know personally but fate does know when to intervene. He told her that for some strange reason he feels very comfortable with her (Editor’s note: if I know this was just part of his “moves”. Haha!peace!). What Red did not know, Chubb felt the same way. They texted as if there was no tomorrow. Imagine, in just a week they already knew almost every detail of each others lives.
During a Book Fair
It was the start of a new semester-a new chapter. Everyone (including the teachers and staffs) inside the campus knew what Red truly felt for Chubb but he still did not have the courage to tell it to her nor could he even look into her eyes and say a simple hello. (Editor’s note: Ang torpe niya ah?) One morning when Chubb was listing down the books sold during a book fair, Ja and Red went to greet her. However, it was only Ja who said a word to her. Red only gave her a “weird” look-a look with cuteness and sweetest within. He was not aware how this melted her fragile young heart.
Days passed by and they felt more and more comfortable with each other. Chubb even complained about getting fat but Red never failed to answer “Hindi naman. Sakto lang. Cute nga, chubby!” It was that same conversation when he admitted how deeply he admired her.
The First Love Letter
December 18, 2007. Old fashioned as it seemed but this love letter proved how sweet Red really was.
Chubb ko,
… I LOVE YOU! …
After the letter, every text of him contained the four magical words I love you Chubb. She did not admit it but slowly, she was also falling for him. Somewhat, this love letter and their very first two-minute personal chat outside the faculty were the best gifts they received for that Christmas.
Foundation Day Preparations
Red’s very famous quote, “Thank you, hindi ko na huhugasan yung hand ko!” (He said this after touching Chubb’s hand). He was so persistent though Chubb did not give him much attention. He always stared at her whenever he got the chance. Also, just a good luck “hi” from Chubb made his knees tremble. One Sunday, without any occasion, he bought a cute little bear for her and they named it Bubbles-Red’s first gift to his girl.
Climax
It was the opening of their foundation day when Red and Chubb had their first bonding moment. He accompanied her in buying food and since then they already spent a lot of time with each other. Red would wake up early in the morning to wait for Chubb and escort her to her classroom. Days later and it was Valentines already. Red prepared for this special day and asked the others for help. He was much tensed when he heard that she was on her way to the room. On the other hand, she had no idea of what was happening because she even forgot that it was Valentines Day. Inside the room, heart-shaped red petals were on the floor and there in the middle was Red. In front of every student, he asked her to be his valentine. This was one of their best days together and they both wished it would never end.
Red did everything to please Chubb. He also gave her a notebook containing every emotion he had for her and even introduced her to his family. When they had a fight, Red cried in front of her while apologizing. Of course, this softened Chubb’s heart so she accepted his apology. After that, everything seemed to be perfect. They watched movies together and had lunch together. Red went to Chubb’s house and spent some time with her family. The once “torpe guy” now had the courage to say his feelings in front of Chubb’s family.
Beginning of the End
Vacation and problems came and they had less time with each other. They were both busy and had felt a sudden coldness from one another. Though they still had their friendship, there was something missing. In search for that “missing” part, Red tried to find someone new but it was all the same. He talked to his cousin and told her “Shobeboo, MAHAL NA MAHAL ko pa rin si Chubb”
Months passed until Red’s family called her to tell her the bad news. Red fell into a coma and they asked her if she can talk to him. Maybe with her help, he would soon wake up. While holding his hand, she told him everything that her heart felt- all the love she was not able to show and say. REGRETS…the perfect word to describe her feelings.
Despite the regrets and despair, Chubb accepted defeat. After all, she would rather lose him to God than to somebody else.
As requested by my cousin…
AJ this one is for you. ^__^
